Remembering George Floyd

I am so very sad about the death of this innocent man. I want to much to hear about his life, his thoughts, his dreams. His death, so tragic, has become a catalyst of amazing change in our country. Changes that need to come.

Yesterday, after taking all of this in, trying to feel my place, where my whiteness, privilege and distance from this world of terror that so many black and minorities face in our country. I am sheltered in so many ways. I live in a world that feels safe, feels supported. I cant imagine what George faced, and so many people in our country, our world face each day with bigotry, power, elitism, and especially fear…of whether they will either live or die because of their color, beliefs, religion, sexual identity…..oh, such a long list of judgement and condemnation.

I decided I wanted to draw George Floyd. To feel his face, to feel the spirit of him.

There is an intimacy of art that engages the soul. That is the true gift it brings to the creator.

I want to memorialize his life in my own life. His most precious life. I want to walk with him in me, to learn, to engage, to observe, and to act. I need to learn from him, so I will know how to do something to improve this and Im starting with a drawing.

May we all find our place of empowerment in these challenging times.
