Finally Live Music!

Well folks, we survived Covid! I do hope that all of yours did as well. I did get the virus and am lucky that I wasn’t hospitalized and the worst symptom for me was losing my smell for nearly 6 months. It didn’t help my weight, though because peanuts were the only thing I could taste for quite a while.

As an artist and a musician, it was difficult to lose income from the lack of playing and art shows. But more wearing was the overwhelming sadness of the great losses all around. I didn’t produce very much art and found it hard to play alone. So much of music and creativity for me is in the sharing.

So imagine my glee at this last week, ( and I have been vaccinated) to be out in the world of music again. Out at open mics and gatherings, farmers markets, patios at restaurants, to hear the live music being played once again. It is filling my sad soul back up.

I want to express my gratitude to those who fought the battle with Covid, so many in the backrooms of hospitals, or in the front lines of the crisis, all the great many who kept us well, or helped us grieve. There are so many unsung heroes and I hope that I will in time be able to write a song for all of you who helped through this terrible time.

None of us probably could ever imagine living through such a time but we did and we made it. So celebrate when you hear live music and you see art, knowing that what has synthesized through that creative spirit has been through a tragedy, too. I’m grateful to be alive today to be able to sing and create. I am grateful to your support of the arts and may you all be well.
